This presentation will provide attendees with specific terminology, concepts, and statistical information surrounding race, inequity, and music education. With these ideas in mind, attendees will begin to evaluate their practices as facilitators of curricula identifying areas that can improve in their classroom, and resources to develop "fluid" music education. This presentation is relevant for the band, orchestra, choral, or general music educator.

Do you ever wish that there was a step-by-step guide to teaching cultures other than your own? There is not a “one size fits all” approach to teaching all students. As the demographics of our society change, teachers must purposefully develop personal and pedagogical practices to create a more inclusive classroom environment. Only when meaningful relationships have been fostered can educators promulgate art through music education.
Considering the recent events of our time: social unrest, political division, COVID19, and the election of the First Black Female Vice-President Kamala Harris, we must endeavor to ignite our spark while yet reaffirming our purpose.
This workshop will provide attendees various techniques and skills to add to one's left hand, non-verbal gestural vocabulary through the use of Laban gestures. This clinic will feature exercises for both instrumental and vocal educators.
